In math we are learning a very challenging concept! We are finding the fraction of something. For example in a deck of cards, the hearts are 12/52 of the deck. Another example we talked about today was that girls in our classroom are 13/26 of the class. Some students also recognized that this was 1/2! Great observations. This concept can be difficult to grasp so any practice they can do at home would be wonderful!

What is the fraction of pennies in your piggy bank?
What fraction of deck of cards are face cards?
What is 1/5 of 20?
What is 1/4 of 12?
What is 2/3 of 9?
We'll continue to explore finding the "fraction of" particular items and groups throughout the rest of this unit. Tomorrow we'll do this through the use of pattern blocks.
