Everyday Math Unit 8 - Perimeter and Area

Today we began unit 8 in Everday Math. It focuses on perimeter and area. The lesson began having us reflect on our kitchens. Back in lesson 7.11, students were asked to measure the distance between their stove, sink, and refrigerator. We talked about efficient kitchens and what experts recommend as the distance between appliances. The learning took place when we connected the appliances with a triangle and found the perimeter! Their studylink today continues to have them practice finding the perimeter around certain objects/shapes.

We described the perimeter as the distance around the outside of an object. It is how far you have to walk if you are walking around the outside.

It was fun seeing a snapshot of your kitchens today 4th graders! Great job learning and participating today.
