Solar Water Heaters

This week we have been learning about Solar Water Heaters. Students took one of four different containers outside and watched how the temperature changed over the course of 20 minutes. The container was either...

black and covered
black and uncovered
white and covered
white and uncovered

Today we graphed some average results and talked about what we learned.

We learned...
-black absorbs heat
-white reflects heat
-the cover trapped the heat
-the warmest water was in the black covered containers
-the coolest water was in the white uncovered containers

If only the sun would come out we could get back outside and learn about how surface area affects the temperature! Hopefully next week - keep your fingers crossed.
