Constructed Response

One of our school goals is to become proficient in constructed response. That is basically writing to a prompt.

We practice this type of writing in every subject and will continue to talk about it throughout the year. One of the pictures above shows an example of the type of rubric we use when scoring them. We look for vocabulary usage, answering all parts of the question, restating the question, organization, etc.

A big push in 4th grade is to start incorporating appropriate vocabulary into our writing in the content areas. We have a science word bank up on our bulletin board in the room which we encourage students to use any time they are writing about science.

This is a lofty goal ... but with hard work and continuous attention we know all of our student will become proficient constructed response writers!!

Hi Mrs. Dupee. Can you email me your constructed response rubric? I would like my fourth graders in Minnesota to use it. Thanks! Mrs. Axe
